Mrs. Glass's Terrific Third Graders!

Hello Families,

Technology has become an important part of education. Students must be able to effectively utilize technology in our information rich society. Many students’ lives today are filled with technology that gives them access to information and resources, enabling them to pursue their interests in their own way and at their own pace. The opportunities are limitless, borderless, and instantaneous.

With this in mind, I am excited to announce that this school year our class will be heavily integrating computer technology in our curriculum. Three out of the five school week days (MWF), students will be receiving class lessons and completing class assignments on a laptop that will be provided to them. As a result of this one to one computer-based learning style I believe that students will:

- Improve academic achievement.

- Use the internet and computer media to communicate and work together.

- Use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, and solve problems.

- Understand and practice legal and ethical behavior related to technology.

What We'll be Doing

We will be incorporating the following websites into our ELA, math, science, and history curriculum:

ELA

https://www.readworks.org/

https://www.time4learning.com/language-arts.shtml

Math

https://www.khanacademy.org/

Science and History

https://www.readworks.org/

https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/

*In addition to my ongoing informal assessmnts, students will be taking formal assessments on each of these websites which you will have access to for progress monitoring purposes.

“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.” - David Warlick

I look forward to working with you all as we embark on this new mode of learning together. Please feel free to contact me with any comments, questions, or concerns.

Best,
Mrs. Glass heart
